Course Overview

Lean Portfolio Management is a two-day, interactive course that teaches the practical tools and techniques necessary to implement Strategy and Investment Funding, Agile Portfolio Operations, and Lean Governance. There is also an additional 1-day workshop available to help enterprise teams get started with LPM in their organization.

In this course, attendees gain the practical tools and techniques necessary to implement the Lean Portfolio Management functions of Strategy and Investment Funding, Agile Portfolio Operations, and Lean Governance. Participants also have the opportunity to capture the current and future state of their portfolio with the Portfolio Canvas tool and identify important business initiatives for achieving the portfolio vision. Participants establish portfolio flow with the Portfolio Kanban and prioritize epics for maximum economic benefit. The course also provides insights on how to establish Value Stream Budgets and Lean Budget Guardrails and measure the Lean portfolio performance.

SAFe Lean Portfolio Management Training: What are the prerequisites for taking the SAFe® Lean Portfolio Management course?

There are no prerequisites to take up the SAFe Lean Portfolio Management course. All are welcome to attend the course without prior Lean Portfolio Management or SAFe experience. But to attend the exam one has experience working in a Development and/or Operations environment.

SAFe Lean Portfolio Management Training: Is online/virtual SAFe® Lean Portfolio Management training available?

In general Scaled Agile doesn’t offer online courses as they believe that understanding SAFe® requires a higher level of personal interaction which can’t be done in a virtual environment.

But, considering the continuous spread of COVID-19, Scaled Agile is temporarily allowing all of their courses to be in an online format, including the SAFe® Lean Portfolio Management classes without affecting the quality of the training.

SAFe Lean Portfolio Management Training: How long does it take to complete the SAFe® Lean Portfolio Management training?

The SAFe Lean Portfolio Management course takes 2-days’ to complete which include both theoretical and practical sessions.

SAFe Lean Portfolio Management Exams: What is the SAFe® Lean Portfolio Management certification exam format?

The SAFe®Lean Portfolio Management certification exam is an online test comprising 45 MCQs. Candidates should answer a minimum of 32 questions correct out of 45 in 90 min to pass the exam and obtain the SAFe® Lean Portfolio Management certification.

SAFe Lean Portfolio Management Exams: What is the exam retake policy?

First exam attempt is included as part of the course registration fee if the exam is taken within 30 days of course completion. Each retake attempt costs $50. Second attempt on exam (first retake) can be done immediately after the first attempt. Third attempt requires a 10-day wait. Fourth attempt requires a 30-day wait.

SAFe Lean Portfolio Management Exams: Is it mandatory to take the SAFe® 5 Learn Portfolio Management training in order to attempt the exam?

Yes, because Scaled Agile believes that true learning with a SPC (SAFe® Program Consultant) requires in-person instruction.

PDUs & SEUs: What are PDUs and SEUs?

PDUs (Professional Development Units) and SEUs (Scrum Educational Units) are the credits offered by the Project Management Institute and Scrum Alliance, respectively. Successful completion of educational training or learning opportunities, which serve to validate your participation and continued proficiency helps you earn these PDUs and SEUs.

PDUs & SEUs: Where are PDUs and SEUs applicable?

PDUs and SEUs demonstrate your contribution to the Agile environment by providing credits for any professional achievement that you make in your career. Individuals who hold a credential from Scrum Alliance require to earn a certain number of SEUs for every 2 years to get certified. Similarly, an individual who holds a certification from PMI except the CAPM® needs to earn a certain number of PDUs for every 3 years.

PDUs & SEUs: How many PDUs and SEUs will I get by attending the SAFe® Lean Portfolio Management Certification course?

On successful completion of the SAFe® Lean Portfolio Management Certification, you will receive 15 PDUs and 15 SEUs.

UTAP: Everything You Need To Know About UTAP

1 What is UTAP?

UTAP is a training benefit for NTUC members to defray their cost of training. This benefit is to encourage more NTUC members to go for skills upgrading. NTUC members enjoy 50% *unfunded course fee support for up to $250 each year when you sign up for courses supported under UTAP. NTUC members aged 40 and above can enjoy higher funding support up to $500 per individual each year, capped at 50% of unfunded course fees, for courses attended between 1 July 2020 to 31 December 2022.

Unfunded course fee refers to the balance course fee payable after applicable government subsidy. This excludes material fees, registration fees, misc. fees etc.

3 Who can apply?

All NTUC members can apply for UTAP. However, the following criteria must be met to be eligible for UTAP:

  • Paid-up NTUC membership before course commenced, throughout whole course duration and at the point of claim
  • Course by training provider must be supported under UTAP, and training must commence within the supported period
  • Course must not be fully funded through company sponsorship or other types of funding
  • You must achieve a minimum of 75% attendance for each application and sat for all prescribed examination(s), if any
  • UTAP application must be submitted within 6 months after course completion

4 NTUC Membership Status check

You may check your NTUC membership status by calling our hotline at 6213 8008 and select the following options:

5 UTAP Application

Step 1: Click on ‘Search Course’ under the “Skills Upgrade Available” tab to find out if the course and training provider is supported under UTAP.

Step 2: Register for course with training provider and attend training. For course information and enrolment, please visit AgileAsia website.

Step 3: Login to the U Portal account to submit the UTAP application. NTUC Members should apply for their UTAP claim within 6 months after course ends. Late applications will be rejected.*

  • To support your UTAP claim, you may be requested to submit a copy of your course certificate/tax invoice/statement of attendance via e-mail. Please ensure that you kept a copy of your supporting documents for audit checks when necessary.
  • Before applying for UTAP, please ensure your training commences within the supported period. Application of UTAP on training that starts after the expiry date will be rejected.
  • Only Ordinary Branch (OB), General Branch (GB) and OB/UCLUB members who are paying $117/year will be eligible.
